The Phantom Planet - Movie Review |
|
It's "Gulliver's Travels" in space as an astronaut lands on an asteroid populated by 6-inch tall humanoids and must help them ward off their monster attackers. A 60's B-movie is set in the future - 1980! The mysterious appearance of an unknown planet brings miniature people, giant monsters, beautiful women and undaunted heroes to the screen. In this off-beat sci-fi adventure our astronaut must make a forced landing upon a remote asteroid. It is actually the self-contained planet "Rheton" which has the ability to move in and out of galaxies to escape their enemies. His ship is damaged and he must breathe the planet's atmosphere. Soon he begins shrinking and once he gets down to six inches discovers the place populated by diminutive people who have turned the flying rock into a ship. Before he finds the remedy to this situation, he is lured by two beautiful women and decides to help the inhabitants of the planet battle an invading race of monsters known as the Solarites. He joins forces with the little people to defeat the monstrous solarites, terrifying creatures out to eat them.

The Phantom Planet Trivia - Did You Know? The leader of the wee-folk is Francis X. Bushman who was once a popular romantic lead in silent movies. The Phantom Planet uses recycled music from Destination Moon by Leith Stevens. Curiously enough, it was released in the 1960s to play as a double bill with Assignment Outer Space. Both films used the same music! Related FilmsThe Little Shop of Horrors | Voyage to the Plant of the Prehistoric Women | Teenagers from Outer Space | Kansas City Confidential | The Vampire Bat | |
