The Fast And The Furious - Movie Review

Classic Roger Corman B-movie. A man wrongly imprisoned for murder breaks out of jail. He wants to clear his name, but with the police pursuing him, he's forced to take a beautiful young woman, driving a fast sports car, hostage and slip into a cross-border sports car race to try to make it to Mexico before the police get him.

Frank Webster, (John Ireland) is a truck driver and is accused of killing another truck driver by driving him off the road and John breaks out of jail and finds a diner to eat and meets up with Connie Adair, (Dorothy Malone). John's identity is questioned in the diner by a man and is very suspicious of him and John knocks him out and grabs Connie and takes off in her sports racing jaguar. Connie and Frank go for very speedy rides through out California to Mexico and they even enter a car race with the police following them all the way. They dodge the police, some of Connie’s suspicious friends at the rally race, and other cars during his frantic race for freedom.

Connie & Frank manage to get along after fighting with each other all the time and eventually a romantic relationship grows between the two of them. John Ireland was also the director of this film and Dorothy Malone looked very young and attractive and they both gave an outstanding performance in this black and white B Film by Roger Corman. As a bonus almost the entire movie takes place in the cockpit of a 1954 Jaguar XK120.

The Fast and the Furious is a classic B-movie. The filming of the race sequences is done very well and involves some very good stunt driving. The action is tense and keeps you on the edge of your seat as well. The filmmakers weren’t trying to win any Oscars here but all in all, a decent little adventure film.

The Fast And The Furious Trivia - Did You Know?
